Smoggy Beijing mulls truck ban

Beijing's Environmental Protection Bureau is considering a ban on the use of trucks that transport coal. It also wants coal storage facilities in Tianjin to be closed. Tianjin is one of China's busiest ports. A researcher with the bureau said the drastic move may be necessary to rein in runaway smog. The bureau has not made any formal proposal to the municipal government of Tianjin yet, said Zhou Yangsheng, a researcher with the agency. He made the remarks at a coal industry briefing late on Monday.
