Credit mechanism records violations
Infringing on intellectual property rights will be officially included in companies' and individuals' credit records, according to a guideline on better protection for property rights released on Sunday. Ma Xiushan, deputy secretary-general of the China Intellectual Property Society, said effective implementation of the initiative requires cooperation among multiple government branches and the construction of a social credit mechanism platform.

Training highlights patent operations
The State Intellectual Property Office held a training program last week covering patent operations, involving more than 140 trainees from IP offices, companies and service providers around the country. Lei Xiaoyun, head of SIPO's patent affairs department, said at the opening ceremony that only through proper operations can IP play an important role.

Intl specialist center to be built
The local government has vowed to build the municipality into an intellectual property center for the Asia-Pacific region by 2020, said Lyu Guoqiang, head of the city's IP administration. During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20), Lyu said Shanghai will further encourage the use of the Madrid System for registering trademarks, the Patent Cooperation Treaty and the international registration of industrial design, and build a prewarning mechanism to safeguard overseas IP rights.

Platform aims to improve connection
An online intellectual property service platform jointly created by a local software industry park, a venture capital firm and two IP government agencies was launched in Nanjing, the provincial capital, on Thursday. It was designed to help colleges, research institutes, individuals and companies in the province communicate and exchange IP information, find innovative projects and increase the commercialization rate of scientific inventions. The platform now has over 1,000 high-tech companies in Nanjing registered as members.

Campaign to lower counterfeit goods
The market supervision administration of Harbin recently launched a two-month campaign targeting counterfeit goods and infringements on trademark rights before the New Year and Spring Festival celebrations. The campaign will focus on Russian products, sportswear, cosmetics, bags and belts at major shopping areas, railway stations and tourism sites.
