Inside a department steeped in history

Tsinghua University's Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures was set up in 1926. Famous alumni include distinguished scholars and university professors such as Cao Yu, Qian Zhongshu and Ji Xianlin, who are all well known in their respective fields.

After an interval of many years, the department was relaunched in 1983. Currently, it has a PhD program in English Language and Literature; three master programs in linguistics and applied linguistics, English language and literature, and Japanese language and literature; and two undergraduate majors in English and Japanese.

The department also offers language courses in English, Japanese, German, Russian and French to students from other departments and disciplines at Tsinghua University.
