Society: School steps in as demand for maternity matron surges

The demand for maternity matrons, who takes care of the mother and child during the first few weeks after birth, is surging as Chinese couples are now allowed to have two children. In Beijing, a school is capitalizing on this. It provides a training program including child care, early education, housekeeping, and other domestic skills. Trainees can get their vocational qualification certificates and become postnatal attendants after an eight-day course which costs 1,700 yuan ($250).
