Farewell, Roger, and fare well little Jimmy Wu

A few days ago big Roger left us and little Jimmy joined us.
Roger Ryan was a journalist who worked for two years in Beijing in the twilight of a long and distinguished career in newspapers.
He and I lived right next door to each other for several years, but I barely ever heard a peep out of him and his wife, let alone saw them.
