The Chinese Academy of Social Science said that its latest study showed that social responsibility is becoming a core value and a feature of the sustainable development policies of Chinese companies that are increasingly going global.
"As new global players, it is reasonable for Chinese companies to fulfill their social responsibilities so as to gain legitimacy, improve competitiveness and win recognition," said Zhang En, executive deputy director of the Corporate Social Responsibility Research Center at CASS.
Corporate social responsibility was introduced locally by international corporations, but became popular in China since 2000. It has been growing in tandem with increasing awareness among more socially-conscientious companies.
