Customs officials encourage registration
In the first 10 months of 2016, Qingdao customs seized 39 batches of counterfeit cargo, involving more than 44,000 products that were together worth nearly 5 million yuan ($728,141). The Qingdao customs office encourages companies to register their intellectual property. More than 570 items from companies in Shandong province have been registered so far this year, accounting for 12.3 percent of nationwide customs-registered IP over the period.

Local govt supporting industry growth
The province was recently approved to become a pilot area for intellectual property support. According to the provincial implementation plan, Henan will have 450,000 registered trademarks by 2020, with at least 10 invention patents for each 10,000 residents on average. The government will encourage the development of patent-intensive industries and set up related awards.

New institution unveiled at university
The Shanghai International Intellectual Property Institute was unveiled at Tongji University last week, and will recruit teachers from around the world. As part of the Shanghai government's efforts to develop high-end IP talent, the institute is designed to train managers in international organizations, specialists in international IP law, executives in companies and researchers in think tanks.

Training platform beats regional rivals
The Fujian provincial intellectual property online training platform tops others of its kind nationwide, according to a recent comprehensive evaluation conducted by the Chinese Intellectual Property Training Center. Built in 2012, the Fujian platform has so far trained nearly 50,000 people. It has opened nine sub-websites.
