I'm all for US voters shaking things up, and they delivered an utterly unexpected result. Some members of my family in the US who supported Donald Trump were happy to blow a hole in the political establishment, which they view as complicit in sapping the middle class for decades.

They saw a potential solution, and took a gamble.
