Andean connection to East Asia goes back to the mid-19th century

As a reporter who covers President Xi Jinping's state visits, I have seen many welcome ceremonies in different countries in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Among the most common are dragon and lion dances - traditional ways for Chinese to celebrate big events.

However, the dragon dance performances I saw in Lima, capital of Peru, were a little different. The performers appeared to be ethnic Chinese and non-Chinese.
