Fines imposed for false quake alarms

The provincial government has issued a regulation on early earthquake warnings, stipulating that those spreading false warnings will be fined a minimum of 5,000 yuan ($734). The provisions will come into force on Jan 1. Under the regulation, any place with a higher concentration of people, such as schools and hospitals, will have to install a warning system. A maximum fine of 30,000 yuan could be handed down to those who cause severe consequences by spreading false information or deliberately causing problems at warning facilities.
