Item from Nov 9, 1989, in China Daily: Snail fever, a disease that the country declared as being eliminated in the 1950s, is making a comeback.

Snail fever, or schistosomiasis, is a chronic disease caused by parasitic worms. Globally, more than 230 million people require treatment for schistosomiasis every year, according to the World Health Organization.

People are at risk of infection due to agricultural, domestic and recreational activities which expose them to infested water.
