In Chinese tradition, li dong, or the Beginning of Winter, which falls on Nov 7 this year, is one of the 24 events in the lunar calendar. On this day, people hold a big feast, featuring dumplings, glutinous rice balls and lamb soup to prepare for the upcoming cold season.
