In 2004, one newborn out of 400 on the Chinese mainland died of birth asphyxia, a condition in which a newborn infant lacks oxygen, but the figure in 2014 declined by more than 80 percent compared with 10 years before, statistics from the country's top health authority show.
Johnson & Johnson acted as an offstage hero of this huge improvement, which has helped to save more than 150,000 babies from death or being paralyzed in the past decade.
Xie Bing, president of personal care business at Johnson & Johnson China Ltd, introduced the project named "Breath of Love" during a forum in which enterprises shared their charity projects. It was held by gongyi.weibo.com, a branch of Sina Corp, in Shanghai on Oct 19.
