Beijing

Emission standards to be tightened

The capital will adopt the strictest-ever vehicle emission standard, starting from next year, aimed at reducing emissions of particulate matter from vehicles by 10 percent. The city will implement the "Beijing VI" emission standard to cut air pollution caused by vehicles, according to a news conference held by the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau on Monday. At present, the city uses the "Beijing V" emission standard, which is equivalent to the "European V" standard that was adopted in European countries in 2009.
