Major information and technology companies are taking a big role in leading the development of the industry - ensuring network information security, raising internet speed and lowering fees, and fulfilling other social responsibilities.

By the end of last year, mobile phone internet usage fees charged by China Mobile, the country's biggest cellular mobile operator, were down 43 percent year-on-year. In 2015, the fees that were charged by China Unicom, the country's second-biggest wireless service provider, fell 32 percent over the prior year, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.

Last year, 4G operators experienced significant growth in the Chinese market, with 289 million more people shifting to mobile phones with their networks. In total, 386 million Chinese are using mobile phones with 4G networks, accounting for 29.6 percent of the total, according to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
