As the year-end event of the WTA Tour, the WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai is mandatory for singles players ranked from No 9 to No 19 in the WTA rankings, which ensures high-level matches.
The tournament announced its first three qualifiers on Oct 18 - two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, 2015 US Open finalist Roberta Vinci and young Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina.
Last year's inaugural tournament attracted 12 singles stars, including American veteran Venus Williams, and six doubles pairs. They competed for a total purse of $2.15 million, which has been increased to $2.21 million this year.
