Item from Oct 10, 1986, in China Daily: Children learn to sing as their teacher plays the organ at Beijing's first privately run kindergarten for kids with mental health issues. With 10 teachers and nurses, the newly opened kindergarten has 17 children aged between 3 and 8.

According to the China Disabled Persons' Federation, China now has more than 85 million people with disabilities.

Twenty percent of them have mental and emotional disabilities, while more than 25 percent have physical disabilities. Most have hearing or speech impairments, or multiple disabilities.
