Employees participate in IHG Foundation Week
InterContinental Hotels Group, one of the world's leading hotel companies, wrapped up its annual IHG Foundation Week in China in late September.
This was after a weeklong series of charitable activities that started on Sept 19, which included a bike ride across Hainan province for senior executives. More than 200 participants, including employees and sponsors, gathered at the Holiday Inn Resort Sanya Yalong Bay for a beachside sports event to raise funds and awareness for the newly launched charitable fund, IHG Foundation.
Throughout the week, IHG employees around China participated in more than 200,000 activities, with IHG making a donation to the IHG Foundation on behalf of the participants.
"Responsible business underpins everything we do at IHG," said Kenneth Macpherson, CEO of IHG Greater China.
In China, the IHG Foundation, in strategic partnership with the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, focuses on helping communities to develop hospitality skills, providing support for those impacted by disasters, facilitating local community investment and protecting the environment.
It has supported the Sichuan Foundation for Poverty Alleviation to fund a project providing hospitality training to 200 single mothers and unemployed women from low-income communities in Chengdu.
The IHG Foundation also provided disaster relief after the tornado in Yancheng, Jiangsu province, and in response to flooding across China this year.
Since its global launch in February 2016, the IHG Foundation has provided 16 grants for 13 organizations around the world and nine reactive grants to support disaster relief across the globe.
