The International Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Development Seminar and 2016 Roundtable Conference for Consuls General in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, is expected to play a role in helping SMEs from home and abroad to expand exchanges and cooperation, event organizers said on Tuesday.

More than 100 consuls general and senior business executives will attend the event, which is part of the forthcoming 13th China International SMEs Fair, according to the organizing committee of the 13th CISMEF.

They said that the event will provide a face-to-face networking opportunity for delegates from China and other countries.

"Participants will also share experiences for the development of SMEs during the event that will take place on Oct 10 and 11," said Xie Hong, executive president of Guangdong Council for the Development Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises.

"The delegates will share their views on supporting SME development and creating more opportunities for cooperation during the two day event," Xie told a press conference on Tuesday.

Foreign delegates to be present at the seminar and roundtable conference also praised the CISMEF as an effective platform to generate business opportunities.

Alberto Limas, consul general of Mexico in Guangzhou, said Mexico is happy to participate in the CISMEF, which has created many opportunities for Mexican enterprises.

China is Mexico's second-largest trading partner, Limas said.

He said Mexican companies have also demonstrated the country's culture and history in previous events, adding that many participating businesspeople said that they were pleased to see that the successful exhibitions have exceeded their expectations.

Dato' Joseph Lim Heng Ee, vice-president of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce, said that Malaysian business executives have brought their products to the vast Chinese market through the CISMEF in previous events.
