Lucky license plate under investigation

A Shaanxi-based license plate is under police investigation after appearing on five different sports utility vehicles. The plate number contains five "8"s, which is considered to be "great fortune" in traditional Chinese culture. Online pictures show that the plate has been used in Yulin on five different SUVs made by four different automakers. Yulin police said on Weibo that the plate's use on two vehicles is registered, including the original registration and a transfer, but the remaining three cases are suspected to be illegal and the vehicles are unaccounted for.
