China Daily | Updated: 2016-09-08 06:57

Item from Sept 8, 1984, in China Daily: People living in mountainous Yangcheng county, Shanxi province, have built a network of roads over the past five years to transport goods and boost the economy.

The construction of an expressway between Beijing and the port of Tanggu in Tianjin will start soon, according to the Ministry of Communication. The 151.6-kilometer four-lane highway will have a maximum speed of 120 km per hour and be capable of accommodating 25,000 vehicles a day.

China has massively improved its transportation infrastructure and, consequently, boosted the economy. In a national road network plan approved by the State Council in 2013, the country aimed to have more than 400,000 kilometers of national roads and highways by 2030.
