Society: Winning a fortune is in the cards

Foreigners who want to get further involved in the Chinese community should lay their cards on the table, especially if they are playing the popular card game doudizhu, which literally means "battling the landlords". Apart from getting to socialize, there is now a financial incentive for those who can master the game. A championship, which kicked off on Saturday, is offering 5 million yuan ($750,000) prize money. It is the first national competition since the game was recognized as a competitive event by China's General Administration of Sport.
