Central China's Hunan province now has a scholarly acting governor, after the local legislature accepted the resignation of the province's governor, Du Jiahao.
The Standing Committee of the Hunan People's Congress accepted Du's resignation on Monday and appointed Xu Dazhe as vice-governor and acting governor. Du is still secretary of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.
Xu is a scientist and politician. After graduating from Harbin Institute of Technology as a mechanical engineering major in 1984, Xu's work experience in the last three decades was all related to scientific research before he was transferred to Hunan as deputy Party chief of the province in August.
