US waits long to nominate woman

The 2016 Olympics have ended with the highest participation of female athletes in the Games' history.

Since a season of records is upon us, I assume the attention of world media will soon shift from Brazil back to the United States where in July Hillary Clinton became the first woman in her country's history to lead a major political party into presidential polls.

She had participated in the US primaries of 2008 but was thrown off the race by fellow Democrat candidate and later two-term President Barack Obama.
