Federer reluctantly followed doctors' advice to skip Olympics, US Open
Maybe Roger Federer could have played at the Olympics and skipped the US Open. Or sat out the Rio Games and made it to Flushing Meadow.
The 17-time major champion contemplated both scenarios, holding out hope as long as he could that he'd find a way to enter at least one of the big events in August.
