Gunmen kill at least 2 policemen
Gunmen killed at least two policemen in Kazakhstan's financial capital Almaty in three near-simultaneous attacks on Monday, security sources and witnesses said. The Interfax news agency, quoting a police source, said "a religious radical and probably a follower of nontraditional Islam" was shooting in central Almaty. The Interior Ministry said several policemen had been killed. Five witnesses said they heard shots in three different parts of central Almaty, the mainly Muslim country's biggest city.

Prosecutor held for corruption
A senior South Korean prosecutor has been arrested for allegedly pocketing millions of dollars following shady stock transaction deals with a leading online game maker, officials said on Monday. Jin Kyung-joon, a vice-ministerial-level official, was arrested and put to a detention facility on Sunday, according to the Justice Ministry. He is the most senior incumbent prosecutor to be arrested in the country.

Heavy rains hit New Delhi
The Indian capital came to a standstill on Monday due to heavy rains that led to massive waterlogging and traffic jams in various parts. Commuters, mostly office-goers and school students, had a harrowing time on the roads as large parts of Delhi got inundated by just two hours of heavy rainfall in the morning. The waterlogged roads triggered massive traffic jams across the national capital as vehicular movement slowed down and some cars broke down in the middle of the roads.

Kevin Rudd bids for UN top job
Former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd is making a late bid for the top United Nations job, after months of criss-crossing the world in low-key lobbying for support. Rudd has requested that the Australian government take the crucial step of formally nominating him to succeed UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, whose second five-year term ends Dec 31.
IRAN
Teheran receives part of missile
Russia has delivered the missile part of S-300 surface-to-air defense system to Iran, Tasnim news agency reported on Monday, moving to finish the delivery of all divisions of the system to Teheran by the end of this year. "The first shipment of missiles of S-300 missile system has recently entered Iran that shows Iran's determination to equip its air defense circle with this system," Tasnim news agency, which is close to the Revolutionary Guards, reported.
