Officials suspended for poor response to deadly typhoon

Three officials were suspended for their inadequate responses in coping with Typhoon Nepartak, which caused many casualties and huge economic losses in Fujian province.

As of Sunday afternoon, the typhoon had left 83 people dead and 19 missing in Fuzhou, the provincial capital, according to the city government.

More than 200,000 people from the city's five counties and districts were affected. Nearly 10,000 houses have collapsed over the past week. Direct economic losses amounted to over 7.1 billion yuan ($1.1 billion).
