Nine people remained unaccounted for on Monday after an avalanche of snow struck Tibet's Ngari prefecture on Sunday morning, according to a preliminary list. Local authorities said emergency rescue teams had been dispatched to the scene.

The avalanche occurred around 11 am on Sunday morning in Dungru village, Rutog county.

Six tents of nomadic families, along with animals and other property were buried in the massive slide, officials said. Nearby villagers have been moved to safety.
