Manager explains issues of concern raised by the public

By Lyu Chang | China Daily | Updated: 2016-07-18 09:43

Hu Xing'e, deputy head of the management bureau of the China Three Gorges Corp, talks about the latest developments at the world's largest hydropower project, as well as issues of public concern:

What is the shipping situation after construction of the Three Gorges Dam?

Our five-tier ship locks were originally designed to lift or lower ships weighing up to a total of 50 million metric tons by 2030. Due to the expansion of shipping on the Yangtze River, we've increased daily lift capacity through technical upgrades. Since 2011, ships passing through the locks have surpassed 100 million tons in total weight.
