New education minister appointed

Chen Baosheng, former Party chief of the Chinese Academy of Governance, was appointed the country's new minister of education, the top legislature announced on Saturday. The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress approved the appointment of Chen, who will replace former minister Yuan Guiren, on Saturday at the conclusion of its bimonthly session. Chen, 60, previously served as director of the provincial publicity department in Gansu and as the top official in Lanzhou.
