Venus wants fairer scheduling

By Reuters In London | China Daily | Updated: 2016-07-02 08:28

Venus Williams accused Wimbledon officials of discriminating against its women champions and said she wants "equality" when it comes to scheduling matches on its two biggest showcourts.

After two days of rain created a backlog of matches, the five-time Wimbledon champion was sent to the 782-seat Court 18 on Thursday - an arena once dismissed as "a parking lot" by former world No 1 Jelena Jankovic.

In 2008 Jankovic fumed she "needed a helicopter" to reach the smallest of Wimbledon's six showcourts.
