System to continue after pilot success
The Patent Prosecution Highway systems between China and Sweden, Iceland and the United Kingdom will continue after their two-year pilot operations conclude on June 30, according to agreements by the State Intellectual Property Office and its counterparts in the three countries. The Sino-UK and Sino-Swedish PPH projects will be extended indefinitely, and the Sino-Icelandic PPH project will be extended for three years. The PPH systems help patent offices streamline their work by reducing replication in examination.

Forum "will raise IP IP awareness"
Hainan's first forum on IP, innovation and entrepreneurship was held on Friday. About 300 government officials, scholars and entrepreneurs took part in the forum and gave keynote speeches. The delegates agreed that IP has become a driving force to promote Hainan's industrial restructuring and socioeconomic development. Officials said the forum will help increase local people's IP awareness and companies' competitiveness.

Industries flock to invention contest
Ten governmental departments and associations jointly organized an invention and design contest for local individuals, teams and small companies. The submitted projects encompass a wide range of industries, including IT, robotics, aerospace equipment, biomedicine and new-energy vehicles. Each project is required to contain at least one patent, which must have been commercialized. The projects are currently being judged and successful ones will advance to the final contest, which will be held in November.

Meeting discusses future of rights
With the theme of "innovation and sharing, the future of IP systems", the annual meeting of the Intellectual Property Law Association of China was held last week, attracting more than 500 delegates from universities, research institutions, courts and companies. During the two-day event, experts discussed topics including the relationship between IP rights and civil laws, judicial protection for trademarks and the revision of the patent law.

Bamboo sector gets trade platform
China's first online IP trade platform for the bamboo industry was unveiled at the 14th China Cross-Straits Technology and Projects Fair that ended last week. Developed by the Yongan Institute of Bamboo Industry, the system provides information on nationwide achievements in the bamboo industry as well as IP supply and demand information to increase IP commercialization in the industry.
