Alvarez gunning for third title

Hard-hitting Canelo Alvarez will attempt to claim a third middleweight world title when he takes on undefeated Liam "Beefy" Smith of Britain on Sept 17, promoters confirmed on the weekend.

No venue was named for the bout in which Smith, 23-0-1, will be making the third defense of his World Boxing Organization junior middleweight crown, however the fight is expected to take place in the US.

"I'm very pleased to announce my next fight against Liam Smith, a tremendous fighter with real knockout power," said Alvarez, who is 47-1-1 with 33 knockouts and one of the most feared punchers in the sport.
