Ex-senior legislator tried for bribery

The trial of a former senior legislator in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region began on Thursday. Li Zhi, former deputy head of the Standing Committee of the regional People's Congress, was tried at the Xining Intermediate People's Court. He was accused of accepting bribes totaling more than 13.1 million yuan ($2 million) and other discipline violations between 1996 and 2013. The verdict will be announced at a later date.
