Britons vote on whether to continue EU membership

More than 46 million people are eligible to take part in the referendum to decide country's future

British voters headed for the polling stations on Thursday in a historic referendum that will decide whether the UK will continue to be a member of the European Union.

The voting, which started at 7 am and will continue until 10 pm (local time), follows a four-month campaign that was, at times, acrimonious.
