Cross-Straits collaboration produces first work on China's modern history

Experts from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan have compiled a modern history of China, the first since 1949.

Covering the period 1912 to 1949, it is the first work on Chinese modern history to be jointly compiled by experts from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan since the Communist Party of China established the People's Republic of China in 1949 after defeating the Kuomintang, which retreated to the island.

Since 2010, 57 historians, including 34 from the mainland, 21 from Taiwan and two from Hong Kong, have worked on the project.
