Policy to promote education in West

The State Council, China's cabinet, has issued a guidance on accelerating education development in the central and western regions, which proposes that 75 percent of the counties in those regions will have achieved balanced development of compulsory education by 2018, reaching 95 percent by 2020. The guidance also calls for increased investment in education for rural and remote areas, and for awards to be presented to excellent rural primary school teachers that have taught in rural areas for many years.
