People: Preserving the ancient craft of cloth shoes
Qiang Shuping in Baipu, a town in Jiangsu province, has been making cloth shoes for 31 years. Her tiny studio is crammed with shoes in various stages of completion. Handmade cloth shoes, originating from the Zhou Dynasty (1046-256 BC), were listed as the national intangible cultural heritage in 2009 for their high historical, cultural, economic and technical value.
