New move to protect folk culture
China's first copyright protection, exhibition and trading center of national characteristic folk culture opened on June 4, showcasing more than 110 cultural products, including 11 miniature replicas of the Forbidden City made by intangible cultural heritage inheritor Zhao Guangzhi. Some 30 exhibits were sold that day. Located at the Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Shunyi district, the center plans to collect 10,000 pieces of folk handicrafts and promote 50 cultural items annually.

Funds earmarked to build demo city
Nanchang plans to set up a special fund of 16 million yuan ($2.42 million) this year to support and accelerate its construction of a "national intellectual property demonstration city". The fund will be used to support IP creation, utilization and management and to award patent projects, ranging from 500 yuan to 20,000 yuan each based on their types and from where the applications are made. Companies and institutions registered in the city can apply for the subsidies, as well as individuals studying or working there.

University patent platform online
The first trading platform for IP from universities went online last week at the Nanjing University of Science and Technology. The platform is co-funded by the university, the Intellectual Property Publishing House and a number of local companies and investors to integrate technical research achievements, patent data, financing capital and operations experience. It is expected to help commercialize patents from universities.

Projects to be commercialized
The Longyan Intellectual Property Office and the Bureau of Finance plan to help 20 patent projects carry out commercialization this year. Each project will receive government funding of 100,000 yuan ($15,175) and other support policies. The projects cover fields including new materials, biological medicines, energy conservation and new energies. After being commercialized, they are expected to contribute an annual combined output value of 135 million yuan.

Center, company in partnership deal
A patent examination cooperation center, which is affiliated with the State Intellectual Property Office, signed a partnership agreement with Revotek, a high-tech company specializing in 3D bio-printing, last week in Chengdu, with the aim to build Revotek into a role model for IP protection in the sector. Established in October 2013, this is the first time the center has partnered with a local company.
