German global testing, certification, inspection solutions provider TUV SUD will support China's plans to upgrade its industries with state-of-the-art technologies and premium services.

"One of TUV SUD's focuses has been, and will continue to be, how to introduce advanced technologies and services to China, to help the country restructure its industries and promote innovation," said Dirk von Wahl, president and CEO of TUV SUD Greater China.

"We are good at supporting innovations: to follow the trend of environmental protection and low carbon emissions, establish a professional laboratory network across the country, offer specialized training or seminars for local clients, and partner with local companies to support quality improvement."

TUV SUD celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. The company has positioned itself as a long-term player to support Chinese business growth since it opened the first branch in China in the early 1990s.

Von Wahl said TUV SUD is dedicated to providing safety, quality and sustainability solutions that add economic value for customers.

"By providing consistent and reliable services to different players along the supply chain, we partner with our customers to achieve long-term benefits while meeting their safety and quality objectives," he said.

Commitment to China

TUV SUD has been playing a significant role in advancing China's industrial upgrades in many aspects over the past two decades, including participating in the establishment of many industrial standards in China.

The company also assists its local clients to transform and enter the testing and certification industry by offering professional knowledge and staff training.

The German company has been actively developing its business in midwestern China to support domestic growth.

"We bring efficient and convenient services to enterprises in China's midwestern regions to improve quality standards for domestic enterprises," he said.

China has grown into one of the most important markets for TUV SUD in recent years.

"TUV SUD's revenue in China continued to grow at a double-digit rate in 2015 with an optimistic forecast for this year," von Wahl said, adding that the company's "German heritage has been one key factor that supports TUV SUD's business development".

"TUV SUD will provide Chinese customers with tailored and one-stop services that leverage its mature and professional German technology."

"Choose certainty. Add value." This is the core philosophy behind TUV SUD's services. For 150 years, TUV SUD has been known for its long-term commitment to quality and safety.

The company's heavy investment in laboratories around China is another key factor that has put the organization at the forefront of the industry.

It has established a professional laboratory network in over 40 locations across China. It has upgraded many existing testing centers in cities like Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangdong province, and Xiamen, Fujian province, to provide more accurate results for customers.

TUV SUD plans to continuously upgrade its facilities to better serve industries and consumers' demands and preference.

"As our business continues to grow, upgrades across both software and hardware platforms must keep pace with export enterprises' high demand for inspection services to better partner with Chinese manufacturers, helping their products gain access to global markets," von Wahl said.

Future development

Von Wahl believes that China's industrial upgrading plans including Made in China 2025 and supply-side structural reform will strongly support TUV SUD's growth in the near future.

"We see this transformation as a huge opportunity," he said. "As China's economy continues to develop, the establishment of a testing, inspection and certification organization of a certain size and with certain service capabilities is necessary."

The Chinese government has taken measures to support the development of a testing and certification industry in China. Some foreign companies have been allowed to enter restricted testing fields.

Figures from the Certification and Accreditation Association of China show that the market size of the inspection industry in China reached 210.5 billion yuan ($32 billion) in 2014, a rise from 167.8 billion yuan in 2013.

TUV SUD vows to closely follow business trends and government policies in China.

"Only with timely and ongoing adjustment to our organizational structure can we adapt to the pace of business development. We hope that we can continue to bring our professional services advanced by the engine of 'innovative business' to Chinese enterprises," von Wahl said.
