People must work together Peng Yining

Yin Jie, director of the emergency management office at the China Maritime Search and Rescue Center

The ocean is a big place and full of uncertainties. A single search and rescue force could never cover all the waters, so people must work together and help each other.

According to the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue, China is obliged to help vessels from any country in the waters along our coastline. In fact, humanitarian concerns mean that we have long taken responsibility for a far larger area. Our rescue force has sailed far out to sea when emergencies have occurred. I believe other countries would do the same to help ships flying our flag.
