A moment in time: At the foot of an ancient pagoda

The 44-meter-high Lingshansi Pagoda in Yan'an, Shaanxi province, was built in the eighth century. It is an iconic landmark in the city and embodies its rich heritage.

The photo (above) taken in 1985 shows an open market at the foot of the hill where the Pagoda is located. Then, people used to buy daily necessities from a market there.

On Friday, at the same location (below) you can see a father buying balloons for his son. The area has become a place of leisure for people to enjoy scenery and relax.
