By Wang Hongyi | China Daily | Updated: 2016-05-27 08:13

Liuzhou in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region aims to be a green and livable city.

To date, the local government has invested 20 million yuan ($3.07 million) in reducing emissions and supporting key industries.

It has also implemented energy conservation and emissions reduction projects that include monitoring systems.

During the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15), the city renovated 20 square kilometers of green areas and constructed six natural protection communities and eight forest areas.

In 2015, the forest coverage rate reached 65 percent, and the per capita public green area was 11.64 square meters.

Liuzhou has also strived to improve the city's green facilities and ecological environment.

It has invested more than 66 billion yuan in building five sewage collection systems with the sewage collecting pipe reaching 1,058.8 km.

It established 11 urban living sewage treatment plants, and seven environmental living garbage disposal sites.

Liuzhou is the first city in Guangxi to develop emergency water sources.

It has established four water quality automatic monitoring stations, and an online real-time environmental monitoring center.

The city is also among the first in the country to release PM2.5 monitoring data to the public. A newly built air quality forecast and warning system can make a three-day forecast of changes in air quality.

In recent years, the city's industrial total output value has risen at more than 10 percent.

Liujiang River has maintained its national Class Three water quality standards and its air quality in urban areas has met the requirements of Class Two standards as described in National Standard for "Environmental Air Quality".
