Collegiate league opening new doors

A fledgling collegiate basketball league in China is looking to emulate its high-profile counterpart in the United States to enhance the role of sport on campuses across the nation.

Good-natured jeering from opposing factions of fans and a halftime cheerleading show accompanying two games at Peking University's Khoo Teck Puat Gymnasium on Saturday were reminiscent of the atmosphere at a weekend college clash in the US.

It was the final night of the university's Beida Cup tournament, which was also part of the 2015-16 U League season.
