Analysts see challenges ahead for new leaders

By China Post | China Daily | Updated: 2016-05-20 09:06

Taiwan's incoming leadership is expected to face various challenges with Beijing after Tsai Ing-wen of the independence-leaning Democratic Progressive Party takes office on Friday, analysts said.

Tsai defeated the mainland-friendly Kuomintang in January's election, while the DPP also trumped the KMT to become the majority in the island's legislature for the first time.

But so far, Tsai has given no indication that she would acknowledge the 1992 Consensus, which agrees there is only one China.
