Oil sands city largely left untouched by raging fires

By Associated Press In Fortmcmurray, Alberta | China Daily | Updated: 2016-05-11 08:25

Authorities are struck by the extent of the wildfires that burned homes and businesses

Alberta's premier has declared Canada's oil sands city has been largely saved and said a plan will be put together within two weeks so most of the 88,000 evacuees can return to their homes.

At least two neighborhoods in Fort McMurray were scenes of utter devastation with incinerated homes leveled to the ground from a wildfire that the city's fire chief called a "beast ... a fire like I've never seen in my life."
