The New York Islanders have been John Tavares' team from the moment he was the No 1 overall pick in the 2009 NHL draft.

After enduring four losing seasons in his first five, the captain has led the Isles to consecutive appearances in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and earlier this week gave the team's rabid fans the signature playoff victory they've been craving for 23 years.
