Capital invests in digital products
The city will spend 30 million yuan ($4.6 million) this year supporting local copyright export projects, according to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television. Copyrights of digital products, including animation, online games and Chinese language teaching materials, will be some of the focuses of the special fund, which will also be used to train high-quality translators and set up a database of translation experts in the publishing industry.

Residents asked to donate items
The government of Qiaotou township in Dongguan recently started to collect historical materials nationwide that are related to local intangible cultural heritage items, such as photos, newspapers, textiles and videos. People can donate original materials or duplicates and receive a certificate from the town's culture and broadcasting service center. For materials with significant historical values, the local government will give compensations to the owners.

Companies win inaugural awards
After nearly three months of campaigning, 25 companies, institutions and individuals were given the first Shenzhen Intellectual Property Awards on Sunday. The awards are the first in China that cover all IP sectors including trademarks, patents and copyrights. The award winners include a number of Shenzhen-based domestic industry leaders, such as Huawei Technologies, ZTE, Tencent and BYD.

Courts handle 10,000 cases
Courts in Shanghai handled 10,095 IP lawsuits last year, an increase of 29 percent from 2014 and surpassing 10,000 for the first time, according to a report released last week by the Shanghai intellectual property office. The number included 324 criminal cases that involved 568 suspects. The courts concluded 9,353 IP cases over the same year. The local customs department investigated 247 IP cases involving potential retail value of more than 30 million yuan ($4.6 million).

Base eases processes for locals
The patent search and consultation center of the State Intellectual Property Office has opened its fourth office in the Yantai Sino-Russian hightech industrialization cooperative demonstration base. Local officials said the base is a portal for international cooperation and technology transfers, and thanks to the agency, local companies no longer need to go to Beijing for patent analysis reports and translations by the patent search and consultation center.

Book on blue calico published
A book introducing blue calico, an intangible cultural heritage item in Nantong city, debuted at this year's London Book Fair held last week. Wu Lingshu, an inheritor of the technique, and her father Wu Yuanxin spent over two months writing the book, which was later translated into English, with pictures to illustrate the craft's history. Used to make quilt covers in the past, blue calico is now used in modern fashion.
