Foul play in local elections targeted

The Communist Party of China has vowed to identify malpractice in the current round of local elections and to punish culprits. More than 900 million Chinese voters will elect more than 2.5 million lawmakers at county and township levels in elections that will continue into next year. In a statement on Monday, the CPC stressed that there is a ban on factions, bribery, fraud and leaking confidential information, among other types of malpractice. It urged local Party committees, disciplinary organs and organizational departments to carefully oversee the elections.
