BYD adds compact sport utility model to its Dynasty series
BYD Auto has added a new compact sport utility vehicle to its Dynasty series, and announced each model in the series will carry a name badge in Chinese characters on the front grille to replace the oval-shape brand logo.
The Yuan, newly launched at the BYD Dream brand gala in Beijing on April 11, is 4.36 meters long with a wheelbase of 2.54 meters. It has two editions available - a plug-in dual-mode and a 1.5-liter combustion engine.
The dual-mode edition of the SUV is powered by a 1.5-liter combustion engine and two 110 kW electric motors. They output a total of 300 kW maximum, and 645 Nm peak torque. It accelerates in 4.9 seconds from zero to 100 km/h, with a top speed of 165 km/h.
The dual-mode edition, with six-speed DCT and electric four-wheel-drive, consumes 1.3 liters of fuel every 100 km, and its battery is capable of running for 85 km.
The 1.5-liter 4-cylinder fuel engine edition has two powertrain options: turbocharged direct injection with six-speed dual clutch transmission or variable valve lift with five-speed manual.
It is the fourth of the Dynasty series by the Guangdong-based automaker, following the Qin sedan and the Tang and Song SUVs. All of the models named after ancient dynasties have two versions - traditional fuel or new energy.
